Is this the king of the micropub location? Hidden off the road down an alley through a black painted gate and nestled under the arches of the railway bridge. Enter through the fabulous flora of the garden via a canopy into a wood and hessian clad shack with rail ephemera and old tin signs. Friendly local vibe. Seven cask and six ciders with a great start - my Mighty Oak Arcadian from cold room stillage was ace (NBSS 4.5). So good I thought I had to play a joker. Said joker of Goachers Fine Light was less stellar, the cask was kicking up (NBSS 2) and on being told they didn't deal with it well at all "we just tapped it!" said with an air of ‘piss off and know your place’. A shame, they absolutely wrecked what was, at one point, a nailed-on 9.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about 10:50 From Victoria

Cosy micropub hidden away underneath a railway viaduct behind 37 North Street (the front part of which houses a shop), entered via a black-painted garden gate (but there is some signage to guide you). After walking through the domestic garden at the back of the building (with the toilet in a lean-to), you reach a small decking terrace that is a nice spot when the sun's out. The 'bar' itself is housed in a small, square room, decorated with the expected railway memorabilia. Bench seating on two-and-a-bit sides, supplemented with a couple of stools plus a little cash office by the door leading to the rear room with the stillages. Five real ales available on gravity on this brief revisit (with space on the board for seven), with the flavoursome beer called Soggy Trousers from Barker's Brewing (£3.50) proving a fine choice. With its friendly welcome, attractive appearance and good atmosphere, this one is well worth seeking out. First class.

A micropub set in a Victorian railway arch. It is fronted by a pleasant terraced garden with wooden platforms, though the views are somewhat industrial. The single bar room has many railway memorabilia as its décor, and the tiny woodburner provides more than enough heat to keep it warm, even with the doors open. The furniture is the 'standard' micro style of high wooden table sand benches plus a couple of barrels serving as drinkers' tables. The ale selection was predictably excellent, both in variety and quality. Old dairy's Flight of the Kiwi, Kent Prohibition, Pitchfork PG Steam, Grainstore's Rutland Beast and 4 fruit ciders were on offer. A nice touch is the use of oversized pint glasses to reduce spillage. Both the barmaids were friendly, though the landlord came across as a miserable git. The other clients were chatty, convivial and appreciative of this superb establishment. It is the best pub in Strood by a very long way, certainly the only one worth breaking a journey for, and it's even worth including in a Rochester crawl if time allows.
